Frederick "Fred" Malcolm  Van Fleet, Ph.d.

On Friday, February 27, 2015 surrounded by family, after a lengthy but dignified battle with cancer Dr. Van Fleet passed away in his 81st year.  He leaves behind his loving wife Joanne Zientara, brother in law Ted Zientara, step-sons Jeffrey Hayhoe (Jennifer), Jamie Hayhoe (Sarah), Joanne's 5 grandchildren, and his step daughter Jessica Oman of Vancouver. He was the loved brother of Marjorie (late Wesley) Johnson of Teeterville,  Bernice (late George) Wisson of Tillsonburg,  David (Shirley) Van Fleet of Brantford,  Ralph (Corry) Van Fleet of St. George and their extended families. Following his teaching career of psychology at University of Western Ontario from 1966-73, Dr. Van Fleet relocated to Vancouver, where he helped pioneer in forensic psychology in Canada.As an early Investigator into the causes and treatment of P.T.S.D. Dr. Van Fleet referred to this etiology as "acute and chronic delayed stress reaction."  Fred has willed his remains to U.W.O. where they may be used for research and teaching purposes.  The families of Fred and Joanne would like to express our sincere thanks to the staffs of Victoria Hospital, Dr. Eric Freschette and his team, the cancer unit and Fred's G.P. Dr. P. Patel along with Dr. Shadd, the staff and volunteers at St. Joseph Hospice, as well as Fred's new friend & advisor Mr. Brian Klooster.We have lost a good man and a beautiful soul. Fred will forever be in our hearts.  For those who wish, donations may be made to St. Joseph Hospice, 485 Windermere Rd.
